A Dog On My Head

Heyyo. Well this week went by super fast but was also pretty chilly. My comp and I get along very well. Whenever I am bored I tell him to tell me about an anime TV show that he liked. He is so cool because he likes weird things like me. Right now he is trying to learn how to read braille and Italian. I have hopes to learn a little of creole.

Yesterday we went to Playa Diamante for Pday. I cant lie, that beach is the prettiest beach that I have ever been to. Ha ha man sometimes I forget that I am on my mission. We just had the most relaxed day. We played a little bit of beach baseball, then went on a little hike. I found a cute little puppy and but it on my head. It stayed there for like 10 minutes then gave up and jumped off and totally face planted in the sand.
Well the work has been going good. We have one area that has been progressing a ton. We found a few new people to teach the other day. One of them is pretty weird. It is this little ripped Dominican man. All he wanted to talk about with me was if I knew lots of American girls and if any of them would be interested in him. Well if anyone is lonely, just call me and I will hook you up. Ha ha jk.

I have seen a lot of how the lord works in these few weeks. Not in the mission work but working on strengthening other peoples testimony's. I have found out that it isn't always the easiest way. Lots of people that I have met down here have told me about their problems. It is always interesting to see how they deal with it. Some of them get mad at God and stop doing what he wants them to do, and from there it all goes down hill. But there have been others that I have seen where they humble themselves and accept that it is the will of God. It is always so cool to see what type of a person they are after their trial. It is so true that if we endure through our trials with faith, the Lord will always bless us. I know that we are all here for a reason. I know that we all have a purpose as well, it is to grow and learn from the hard things in life. I love you all so much!

Well this week want as eventful as the others.. We really only left the house to preach like 4 of the seven days... We had lots of meetings and the other days we were stuck in the house because we had some guys over trying to fix the showers. We have been having to take bucket showers for the past 3 months.. but it was worth waiting! I forgot how nice it was to have running water. Well things are going good with me and my new comp. We get along well because we are the same in lots of ways. He is obsessed with Sonic the Hedgehog, I know its kind of random but it is funny that he knows so much about one video game. We have been learning a lot together. We both don't have that much time in the mission so every day we learn lots.
It has been raining like crazy here these past few weeks. Just as I left the house to write, the streets were flooding. I am soaked from head to toe right now...

WE are teaching some awesome people right now. We have one who is a solid gold investigator. Last night we were teaching her about baptism. We have only taught her like 4 times and every visit we have made has been a full lesson each time. Now that is unheard of... So we were talking about baptism and how it is necessary to be baptized. Then my comp asked her if she had been invited to be baptized be me earlier.. She said no and kind of got mad that I hadn't asked her earlier, It was cool to see how easy she has been understanding everything.
Last night for Pday eve we played the Santiago mission version of monopoly. There was an elder here that made it. It is so cool because it is so professional. It has all of the areas and everything. We also ate some good ol Dominican pizza that I am pretty sure had something bad in it because today has been a long day... lots of visits to the poop shoot... but yeah that's pretty much it for this week. I love my mission and how many cool experiences that I have had. I love you all so much!

Nagua Might Not Let Me Leave..

Hi home. Well transfers were yesterday, and I guess where I will be serving for the next six weeks? The beautiful beach town of Nagua!! YayHa ha.. Yep so by the time I am done with this transfer, I will have nine months in Nagua. I don't think that President will ever take me out of Nagua...  My comp got sent out because he had a few problems with the leaders here.

I am here with my new comp, whose name is Elder Soltelo from Argentina. He seems super chill and likes the same things as me. The best of it all is that he looks like Borat without a mustache. Ha ha I am really excited for this next transfer. I know that it will be super fun with him.

This past week was a hard one for me. I lost one of my dearest friends that I have made on my mission. Remember the old grandpa who only had 4 toes and 0 teeth and drank bleach to kill parasites? He passed away last Friday. It was a very sad and unexpected death. The reason it was so hard for me, it that we would always go visit him when I had my old comp, but with my new comp, he was controlling and wouldn't allow me visit him. I finally told myself that I was going to visit him Saturday night without fail. Then I got the phone call on Friday... I just wish that I could say goodbye or something... Dang.. He was such a funny guy!

I feel like I really have family here in Nagua. I will really miss them when I leave.  I really love the doctrine about the Plan of Salvation. It is so comforting to know that we will all be together after this life. I love our Savior Jesus Christ and what he did for us. My testimony is growing every day about his life and his sacrifice. I am so lucky to be a representative of him. I love my mission and everything it teaches me! I love you all just as much!

8 Months Out..

8 months... that was fast. 4 more and I am half way. Time is going by super fast! Well it was a pretty good week. There has been lots of mission drama going down in Nagua, that is reminding me of my middle school days... I have a comp that has been the hardest for me to work with out of the three that I have had. Lets just say that it is his way or the highway. It ain't easy for me. Its all good because all of the hard things in life give us experience. That is why I am here, to help others, and to learn from it. I have been trying as hard as I can to be Christ like but sometimes it is hard. Ha ha well it wont last for long. I have heard rumors that I am leaving Nagua next week. It makes sense for the fact that I have been here for 7 months. It has been a wonderful experience here. I have grown so close to some of the people. Its going to be hard to just leave it like that. The work is going pretty good. We have like two investigators that are golden. The crappy thing is that they are women, and the woman have to wait like 3 months to get baptized. Um there is not much more that that. I am at the point that I like speaking Spanish more than English. We got permission to go to the gym from president so every morning I get swore! We went to Samana again today and probably the last time that I will visit this place until my honeymoon. Ha ha it was a super chill day.  no problems. no worries. just chillax. We ran over a dog on the way there. I laughed but it was sad. We also bought an electric fly swatter and have been having lots of fun with that. Other than that I guess I will  update you next week of where I will be serving for the next few months. I love you all so much and thank you all for the support. Life is a beautiful thing. Don't waste it. I am so thankful for all of my blessings. I love this mission experience that I am having. I love the gospel and how much it helps us in life.

Calls Himself Jesus....

Jesus

Wazzup..  Well this week has been a good ol crazy week. First off, the baptism that we had planned for last Saturday fell through... Yep we were all ready and waited all night and he never showed up. We found out that a pastor from another church talked him out of it, telling all of these lies about the church. It was a poopy experience.

This whole week was crazy here. They call it holy week. Its the same as spring break. Everyone is drunk and is just going crazy. Last Saturday there were 28 deaths here. Lots of accidents from dumb people. There is a tradition here to make sweet beans in this week. We ate so much of the stuff. It is so good! Also another weird thing the guys do is they all go buy beta fishes and fight them. All of the adults and kids would always show me their collections of their fishes. Some kid gave me one and I don't know what to do with it. We will see how long it lives.
Funny story time. So we eat at this members house every day. She makes a ton of food every day.  This one bum named Martin started coming over to eat every day. He comes with his bible every day and preaches to us. He says that he is the reincarnated Jesus Christ. He said that he used to be white with blue eyes when he was younger. He doesn't stop talking about his life as Jesus. We always ask him weird questions and he gives us the weirdest answers. He is usually talking to the walls but we answer back to the weird things that he says. So I guess that I have met Jesus. He is a nice guy.

We have been having some great success after what happened on Saturday. We went and visited Alexander. He said that he feels really bad about not getting baptized. He still feels like it is what he needs to do. So we put another date and are going to help him get really prepared this time. We also found the pure gold investigator. It is this young girl that I met months ago with Elder Henriquez. Her and her friend wanted to see my eyes... Creepy I know. No but she is legit. We gave here a pamphlet and she read it all and also filled out the extra study pages that no one ever does. She wants to get baptized too. The sad thing is that I probably won't be here by then. I love the thrills of the mission! God works in mysterious ways for sure. It was an overall good week so I ordered some pizza last night. I love this opportunity that I have to help with the lords work! I am so grateful for all of the support at home! I love you all so much!

#SPRINGBREAG2014INTHEDR

#SPRINGBREAG2014INTHEDR dang I hope that you all have fun on spring break...

This week we worked super hard. We had four days in a row where we left at 9am and got back to the house around 10pm. I am absolutely pooped...We met the goals of excellence which almost no one in the mission meets. We have one of our investigators who we are baptizing this Saturday. He is a cool dude. He is a Haitian who is a friend of one of out less actives. We have been working really hard with him to be prepared to get baptized on this date.  He also has another Haitian friend that only speaks french. I gave him all of the pamphlets that we had in french and he read them all in the first visit. I really wish that I could speak every language!! He is super interested so we will see where it all goes. We also have three other investigators with baptism dates. I hope that all goes well with them.  Other than that the work is going great.

We have been visiting a Sister who was a less active, who has changed so much. She was inviting us over to her house like 4 or 5 times a week. Then one day she offered to cook for us because she likes our prescence. Every stinkin day this week I have gone home stuffed fat! She makes so much food! She has such a strong testimony and loves everything about this gospel.

This week one of the other Elders in Nagua got sick with parasites. I have been lucky so far with not getting sick. We went and visited him and it just looked so sucky. I hope that I never get sick. Today was a super chill Pday. We just got up and cleaned the house. Later I waited two hours to get my hair cut. Everyone still calls me ¨Justin¨...  That's pretty much it for this week. I love my mission and all of the things it is teaching me. My testimony is growing every day. Serving people is the best way we can show our love for them. I am so lucky to serve the people here in the DR. I love you all so much! Bye bye.

Eencie Weencie Spider (?!)

Whut up normal people?? I know that it is weird that I am actually writing on Wednesday. This is because we have power, which is very rare on Wednesdays.

Well this week was great! General Conference was just amazing. Every message was so strong and powerful. Its awesome because on the mission you are focused on every word that they say. I wish it was like that before..I kind of wish that I could go back in time and wake myself up for every General Conference that I have slept through..... haha all well. We got to watch it on little T.V.s in the chapel that dropped the signal every 5 minutes. I hope that you all loved it as much as I did. Well as for the work, all is going great! We have four investigators with baptism dates. We are finding more and more people to teach every week. My comp is a great missionary who is pretty bold. I think that is why we have so many people with dates.

I got a stupid story for ya. So on Monday we were teaching one of the kids that chills on the street with our friends. We were having a good lesson with him talking about the plan of salvation. He kept on bringing things up about UFOs and other weird stuff about the end of the world. Random I know. Well we were trying to get him back on track to the subject. Then out of nowhere I saw a dark thing run across the floor behind the kids seat. I thought that It was a mouse but when I went to check it out I found out that it wasn't a mouse. It was a friggin huge spider!!! I screamed like a girl as I jumped back and almost fell on one of the kids. I hate spiders! Well I felt super stupid as the smallest kid there starts tapping it with his hand. It was the biggest spider that I have seen in my life! Well okay that was a stupid story. Some other news is the bread stealing cat is back. I found my big loaf of bread half eaten this morning. I am going to kill that thing!

Well that's all for this week. It was a chill week. I know that I am doing the work of the Lord in helping people to receive the truth. I love my mission and I love this gospel. I love you all so much and wish you all have a wonderful week!
